This past Friday and Saturday the Ravenswood Event center played host to a gaggle of bands and solo artists for the Heineken Inspire Concert series. DJ Jazzy Jeff, J Cole, Matt & Kim and Cold War Kids all did their thing on stage at the series of free shows. Audience members had to be of legal drinking and secure tickets online before the day of the event—and for good reason, there was as much complimentary drinking to be had as complimentary music.
Saturday’s festivities were broken down into two sets. Hip-hop reigned 2pm to 7pm while Matt & Kim, Cold War Kids and DJ Vice played from 9pm to 1am. Jetsetting DJ Vice spun on a stage set high above the ground floor from 9pm to around 10:30pm, as the room filled before Matt and Kim got the stage.
As DJ Vice filled in the downtime between each live set, there wasn’t a shortage of things for partiers to do. The three floors of the event made up a pseudo-amusement park for the 21+ crowd. The first floor featured sample sizes famous Chicago foods (deep-dish pizza and hot dogs) and a screen printing station where T-shirts were customized in minutes. The second floor had one of two outdoor patios and a small Heineken history museum. The third floor was stocked Nintendo Wiis, Xbox 360s and Playstation 3s hooked up to TVs for leisurely gaming as well as TVs devoted exclusively to Will Ferrell/Adam Sandler comedies. (more…)
